What It Truly Means to Be 100% Australian Made

Over the past 18 months, I’ve proudly built a brand that is 100% Australian made. However, many others misleadingly claim the same, using terms like Australian designed, Australian owned, or even printed/embroidered in Australia. These terms don’t equate to being genuinely Australian made.

I’ve reached out to every Australian clothing business I’ve come across through ads, suggestions, and other means. Many are quick to claim their products are Australian made, but often, they are simply designed or owned in Australia, with manufacturing done overseas. The people who benefit from these misleading terms are the company owners and the overseas manufacturers, who often handle the printing services themselves.

What does it mean to be Australian made?

According to the Australian Made Campaign, a product must undergo its last substantial transformation in Australia to be considered Australian made. This means the final significant manufacturing process must occur in Australia, ensuring the product supports local industries and communities.

Why does it matter more than being Australian designed or owned?

When you purchase a product that is truly Australian made, you support a network of local businesses and workers. Here’s how your purchase makes a difference:

Australian cotton farmers who supply the raw materials.

– A family-owned manufacturer in Victoria, with nearly 50 years of history.

– Local knitters and dyers in Victoria.

– A family owned small business embroiderer and screen printer in Queensland.

– The Clayfield post office, ensuring your products reach you.

– My accountant and financial planner/advisor, who help keep the business running smoothly.

Universal Approach, who provide stickers, banners, business cards, and Australian made stickers.

Holly Espray, the V8 SuperUtes driver, whom we supply clothing at cost price to help sponsor her driving.

Additionally, I’ve worked at markets and Brisbane racing events, engaging directly with our community. We also proudly supported the Mullets for Mental Health campaign by the Black Dog Institute, raising $2,000 to help Australians struggling with mental health.

All these businesses are Australian owned, pay Australian taxes, and reinvest in our economy. They support families, put food on tables, and keep roofs over heads. When I say 100% Australian made, I mean every single process happens within Australia, not just the last major process as required by the rules.

Choosing 100% Australian made means supporting a network of local businesses and ensuring that every dollar spent benefits our community.
